Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of sessions do you offer?

You can choose between three options:

  1. 45 min Coaching

  2. 60 min Coaching

  3. 60 min Personal Training

How is trauma-informed personal training different from traditional training?

Trauma-informed personal training is a holistic approach to wellness, performed in a safe and supportive environment, respecting boundaries and being sensitive to triggers that may arise during exercise sessions.  I provide cues that specifically facilitate embodiment.  This is done through traditional exercise. We will conclude each session with an exercise to regulate the nervous system. I do not teach yoga or other specific mind body practices.  Focus is placed on fitness, nutrition, establishing daily practices, pain relief and mobility, breathwork and relaxation.  There are no weigh-ins or measurements taken.  When you adopt a healthier lifestyle, your body composition will probably change, but that is not the main objective.

What’s the difference between therapy and coaching?

The main difference is that in coaching, we look more at the present and where you want to go. In therapy, you might focus more on past experiences.  We identify patterns where you feel stuck and work with the nervous system to create lasting changes in the brain.  You learn to feel and identify fight/flight/freeze/fawn responses by what they feel like in the body.  You can then integrate exercises into your daily life that calm your nervous system.

What kind of people do you work with?

I work with women who feel stuck in repeated patterns of behavior, those who want to have a greater sense of power and control over their lives, and anyone who just needs someone to hold space without judgment.

Would this make sense for me if I’m already in therapy?

Most of my clients have been in or are in therapy.  I am happy to work alongside your current therapist.

How much does it cost?

I believe that wellness should be available to everyone. Rates are flexible and based on what you can afford.

What is the link between exercise and mental health?

There is a good amount of science linking exercise to improved mental health. “Research from UCLA reports those who exercise experience a 40% decrease in poor mental health days per month compared to those who don't.” The Link Between Exercise and Mental Health | UCLA Health More recently, researchers have found chemicals released during exercise, referred to as, “hope molecules”, can improve your mental wellbeing. “Hope Molecules”? What can I expect, what happens at each session?

If you choose to focus on coaching, we meet either in-person, or on-line.  We discuss whatever is on your mind.  I help you set small attainable goals that get you closer to where you want to be, I teach you about your nervous system and how to end the frustrating patterns, you receive practical tools that you can use anytime you need them, I hold space for whatever you bring to the session.

If you choose personal training, I will meet you where you are.  The goal is always to feel better when you leave than when you came.  Soreness might happen, but it’s never the goal. This is a place of self acceptance, where everyone is welcome. I will have a personalized workout ready for each session, but you always have voice and choice.  Your feedback is welcome and encouraged. Each session begins with a mobility warmup specifically designed to meet your needs.  We then move into the workout, usually full body, that lasts around 30 minutes.  We cool down with gentle, somatic movements and stretching, and finish with a nervous system regulation technique and setting goals for the week.
